OutSchool is Cool

Since we have decided to homeschool, I've been doing a lot of research on different types of homeschooling and what might work best for our family.

I'm also coming to understand that what might work best for one child might be something that doesn't resonate for the other child. That's one aspect that I am excited about, being able to tailor their learning experiences to what works best for them, but also being able to focus in on their "problem" learning areas.

For John, his handwriting and essay writing skills need a ton of work. Dot made it through virtual kindergarten, but still needs work on reading - it's an on-going process, of course.

As I was looking around on the net for classes that the kids could take here and there, I found OutSchool. OutSchool is a site where you can find all types of virtual classes for your kiddos. The best part for me is that they're live classes, meaning she gets 1 on 1 interaction with not only the teacher but with the other Learners who are attending that particular class.

I also love that OS is secular, meaning they respect all religions and points of view, but it's not necessarily a religious based site or program - they welcome everyone! All of the teachers that we've had so far have been great. Teachers have lots of experience teaching little ones, which is a number 1 priority when looking for a great class, in my opinion.

Dorothy has been asking me to sign her up for ballet classes since before COVID hit, but said she's too young to have a vaccine for COVID physical in person classes are pretty much out of the question for us. I was able to find many ballet classes online for her to take, and she took her first ballet class yesterday with Miss Emily. I also love that there are themed classes. Like Dot's ballet class was Frozen themed, but they have more traditional dance class options as well. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Dot had a fantastic time! I also got John signed up for a Roblox social club that meets weekly to discuss and play Roblox. John was more excited than I think I've seen him all summer, which is saying an awful lot. I really was looking for a way for John to make some friends and have a subject that he loves to talk about. Another score for OutSchool.

Overall, I'm very pleased that I found OS. I wish I had known about it earlier in the summer, because it would have been nice to help keep the kids busy and engaged in learning, but it is what it is. I'm so happy to have found OutSchool and I can't wait to build my little Learners' confidence, have them learn something new as well as make new friends along the way!

You can also visit OutSchool.org, which is their charity that gives kids in need access to quality education. On this site, you can apply for financial assistance, donate to the cause, or just learn more about what OutSchool does.
